Anthony Bourdain to Speak at September 16 Event
Date: July 15, 2008
Author: Kauffman Center
World traveling chef, author and raconteur Anthony Bourdain will be in Kansas City on Tuesday, September 16 for an event presented by Bristol Seafood Grill and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Bourdain will speak at The Midland about culinary adventures he has enjoyed during his search for “the perfect meal,” which he describes as the ideal combination of food, atmosphere and company. Afterwards, he will participate in a reception at the downtown Bristol. Tickets for both events go on sale July 15.
The search for great food and the perfect meal is never-ending for Anthony Bourdain, a 28-year veteran of professional kitchens. Bourdain, a self-styled “gonzo-traveler” has tramped to and from fishing villages in Vietnam, to bars in Cambodia and Tuareg camps in Morocco. The search has taken him to Japan for yakitori with drunken salarymen to Saigon where he famously ate the still-beating heart of a cobra. But he also waxes poetic about less outrageous fare saying, “A jerk chicken in Jamaica is something that would be absolutely shameful to miss.”
Perhaps the only thing Bourdain loves more than sampling of delights around the world is telling others about his experiences, as he will do on Tuesday, September 16. His presentation, entitled “A Cook’s Tour: Global Adventures in Extreme Conditions,” will be held at the newly renovated Midland in the Kansas City Power and Light District.
Bourdain has been called outspoken, irreverent, bombastic, opinionated and laugh-out-loud funny—among other things. One reviewer of his books says “Bourdain's success as a writer is his knack for making food the centerpiece of a much broader discussion about living life on a grand scale.
