Metropolitan Opera broadcasts in Kansas City
Date: December 14, 2007
Author: Kauffman Center
Last year the Metropolitan Opera broadcast six live performances via satellite to movie theaters around the world. Sell-out crowds enjoyed their innovative “Live in High Definition” series, which reached 350,000 people in North America, Europe, and Japan. An encore was soon in the making.
This year the Met invited the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and Kansas City’s Lyric Opera to partner on the 2007-2008 HD series. From December 15 through April, opera fans in Kansas City don’t have to go any farther than their local movie house to see eight live Met performances, ranging from to Hansel and Gretel to MacBeth.
Tickets are on sale now for the December 15 performance of Roméo et Juliette that will be shown at Cinemark 14 on the Plaza; Cinemark 20 in Merriam; Studio 29, Olathe* and KC Stadium 18 at Ameristar* (see ticket purchase info at bottom). At the two theaters with stars above, Kauffman Center and Lyric staff will greet opera-goers and talk about local opportunities to enjoy great opera and theater.
