Summer 2007 Photo Galleries

Like many people this time of year, we’re taking stock of our summer activities and putting our vacation photos in order. The idea of summer as “down time” didn’t hold true for the Kauffman Center and we thought we’d let you stroll down memory lane with us through some photos. Check out the stories below and click on the links to view our photo galleries.
Donors host a poolside cabaret
The summer began with a poolside cabaret hosted by donors Linda and Tom Beal on June 8 (which happened to be one of the loveliest nights in months). More than 70 current and future Kauffman Center supporters enjoyed cocktails and dinner interspersed with music by Frank Cherrito. He interrupted his string of Sinatra, Elvis and Dean Martin tunes to let Jane Chu tell everyone about the Kauffman Center. Finally the evening ended with everyone up on his or her feet, swaying to Neal Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.” We have proof in our web album.
Art gallery open house brings Ambassadors, supporters, together
Ambassadors Anita and Gary Maltbia hosted an art gallery open house on June 28 that continued our summer fun. More than 100 friends and family enjoyed a reception at the Robert Frazier Gallery at 3120 Troost. In addition to the art on display in this new gallery, guests enjoyed tunes of the Kansas City Youth Jazz Band, conducted by Leon Brady. A short presentation about the Kauffman Center included words of support from Jane Chu and the two hosts. In addition, a new five-minute video developed by Elaine Hamilton was unveiled. See all the action in our web album.
Architectural model attracts First Fridays visitors
First Fridays were a big part of our summer fun—despite the heat in our third floor perch at the Arts Incubator. Ambassadors explained the Kauffman Center and showed off the architectural model to more than 1,100 people during First Fridays in June, July and August. Ambassador Christine Murray took these photos during her volunteer time on July 6th.
Visit from the National Endowment for the Arts chair delights supporters
We were honored to have the Chairman Dana Gioia of the National Endowment for the Arts join us at a reception and dinner on July 17. Entertainment provided by the Kansas City Chorale earned raves from the crowd and the chairman. See what went on at Webster House that night.
